About Us

The Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program was created in 2022 to address environmental health and safety-related challenges in rural, Tribal, and qualifying urban areas of Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming.

MAP EJ Grants Hub

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) selected the Mountains and Plains Environmental Justice (MAP EJ) Grants Hub as its grantmaker for the region.

As such, the MAP EJ Grants Hub:

  • Designs competitive subgrant application and submission processes.
  • Awards subgrants, totaling $48 million, over a three-year project period.
  • Implements tracking and reporting systems’
  • Provides support and technical oversight for subgrantees.

EPA Thriving Communities program

The goals of the TCGM program are to:

  • Benefit communities that experience greater obstacles to health
  • Seek to address a specific environmental health and safety issue in that community of interest
  • Engage community members and prioritize community representation
